LORE DROP! Concerning the Triangle of the Storm Sea
From the notes of Gerrick the Historian (A note particularly for Team C)
Mariners speak in hushed tones of a broad expanse in the southern Storm Sea, marked upon no official chart but known among them as 'The Triangle'. These waters are shunned, for too many ships have vanished after crossing their bounds. Those who attempt the long passage from the eastern continents to the New Kingdoms often choose the longer course rather than brave that region. As for the cause of these disappearances, no certain account exists. Some speak of sudden tempests that rise without warning, others of a creeping madness that overtakes the mind at sea. There are whispers, too, of spirits from the abyss, of the hands of the gods themselves, or of the Triangle serving as a passage into another realm entirely. Along the coasts of the Great Swamp, and upon the scattered islands that fringe these cursed waters, the people tell of distant bellows and roars unlike any known beast. A few swear they have glimpsed vast shapes moving just beneath the waves, creatures so large that the sea itself seems to shudder at their passing. Perhaps these leviathans are the cause. This much only is certain: those who enter the Triangle do not always return, and those who do are seldom willing to speak of what they saw.
