To those recently placed under my charge,

Welcome to your sponsorship. You’ve been selected—carefully or carelessly, who’s to say—by one of the Guild’s more elusive benefactors. Their coin is good, their motives are unknown, and the Guild, as always, doesn’t turn down well-sealed gold.

My name is Shambles Mordwyn. I’ve been with the Guild longer than most and seen more assignments than I care to recount. These days I’m between fieldwork, on what some call a “hiatus” and others call “surviving long enough to be useful in new ways.” Whatever the case, I’ve been contracted as your liaison. It is my task to distribute assignments, collect reports, and determine who’s being clever—and who’s just loud.

What I am not is your babysitter. There are three tasks ahead of you. Each must be completed by one of your three parties. You will need to determine among yourselves which party takes which mission. Debate, bargain, gamble, intimidate, trade favors, or sweeten the deal if you must. My ears are always open to generous considerations… though I make no promises on fairness.

You have until the end of this month to submit your final choices. If you can’t decide—or if I grow tired of the squabbling—I’ll assign the missions myself. Historically, no one enjoys that outcome.

Do keep me informed of any permanent magical items acquired along the way. The Guild requires the information, and I expect accuracy. You keep the item, yes—but knowledge is power, and the Guild always collects.

Your tasks are as follows:

MISSION 1:
The first Annual Expedition Exposition, currently taking place in the city of Silverwatch in Selsbury, has had a series of misfortunes. These may be coincidence, sabotage, or curse, but your party is needed to investigate the trouble as quietly as possible and put a stop to it.

To avoid causing panic about the investigation, you will be working for a contact, Max Barnett, helping run his menagerie, a job that should allow you ample time for your investigations.

When you have solved the problem, return to the place where you entered Silverwatch, and the door will allow you to return to the Forest Inn.

MISSION 2:
Something is deeply wrong in the sleepy village of Dallowmere. There are no children anywhere—not in the streets, not in their homes, not even in memory. The villagers carry on as if nothing is missing—they work and carry on as usual.

Distant family from nearby villages and traveling merchants report that The Whimwhistle Troupe, a group of traveling performers, was in town near the time they suspect the children to have gone missing. It is assumed that they lured the children away with tales of a thrilling life full of travel and adventure.

Your task is twofold:

  1. Find the missing children and return them to their homes.

  2. Locate the cause of the amnesia and restore the villagers’ memories of their children.

Return to the door that brought you to Dallowmere to return to the Forest Inn when you have completed your task.

MISSION 3:
Assistance needed for the village of Arcadia:

In our peaceful village where life is carefree and fulfilling, there has recently been a most foul and devious stench placed upon us. Murder has been committed not once, but twice. In both cases, no clues were given as to who or what could have committed this atrocity.

We have kept it quiet from the villagers so as not to provoke panic, but it is above our comprehension to find out what vile demon is behind this act. Once you arrive to the village, seek out Remus, and remember—discretion is of utmost importance.

Please send us assistance posthaste to help us solve this and have justice delivered to the perpetrator.

When your task is complete, return to the place where you first entered Arcadia, and the door will return you to the Forest Inn.

I’m told I’ll be seeing more of you in the days ahead. I suppose we’ll see what kind of adventurers you truly are. Until then, choose wisely, act decisively, and remember: I’m always listening... especially when coin is involved.
